As a giving person, Joshua Gasper left in his legacy not only organs to save other lives…but a tradition to encourage life-saving charity forever: an annual blood drive.

Stacey Gasper of Columbus organized a blood drive in honor of her son, Joshua Gasper, Wednesday at the 1C Church. It would have been his 26th birthday if he had not died in 2019 after a fatal motorcycle accident.

Her son used 12.9 gallons of blood in the hospital, so when friends asked Gasper how they could help — she suggested they donate blood. Thus began the tradition.

Joshua’s brother Hunter Gasper said even though his brother died, it made a world of difference. “Just to have more time with him,” he said. “He was my best friend. Losing him changed my life forever.”
