When Jenna Buchanan called her doctor’s office six years ago to reschedule her appointment, it was just out of convenience. She and her fiance, Scott Duell, had plans to go visit her parents the next day, the same day as her appointment. There was an opening, so Buchanan and Duell headed to UPMC Cole.
It was just a normal check-up. Duell told the doctor that Buchanan, who was 37 weeks pregnant at the time, had complained about some tightness in her stomach. The doctors hooked her up to a machine to take a look.
“We’re sitting there and I’m playing in a wheelchair and the nurse came in and starts looking at the (machine),” Duell recalls. The nurse started quickly flipping through the papers and, before they knew it, she ran out of the room and the doctor returned.
