McKinnon is a regular kid. He likes to collect flowers and he’s pretty strong.

Looking at McKinnon play, you wouldn’t know the depths of his strength, or that two years ago he faced a life threatening disease.

“He was just not himself. Wining, whimpering. Then all of a sudden, his diaper was filled with blood,” said his mother, Heather York. “They tested his diaper and said ‘you need to get right to the hospital.'”

McKinnon was diagnosed with Meckel’s diverticulum, a rare birth defect in the small intestine.

He was rapidly losing blood. In order to do the surgery, Mackinnon needed more. They waited 12 hours until his first blood transfusion, but donations saved McKinnon’s life.

“And someone else did it, that we didn’t even know,” said York.

A stranger gave him the opportunity to be a regular kid.
