This week you have a chance to make a real impact in someone’s life. We’re partnering with Vitalant for the KCRA 3 Blood Drive for Life.
Last year, KCRA 3 shared Heather Hoffman’s story. The mother of twins received 11 pints of blood after the birth of her babies.
An emergency C-section led to a series of complications at the time.
This year, she ended up back in surgery, receiving two more blood transfusions. She’s doing fine now and so are the twins, who are now 2 years old.
She said all that she’s been through has strengthened her commitment to donate.
“I had 11 pints of blood to give back then,” she said. “I knew it was going to take me well into two years to give it back. Little did I know I was going to need that blood again.”
Hoffman said she was eventually diagnosed with a rare artery disorder that can cause bleeding like this. She said it shows the importance of advocating for yourself at the doctor’s office and continuing to ask questions when something doesn’t feel right.
