On the six month anniversary of the Carr Fire, Vitalant in Redding held a blood drive to inspire people to give blood before the next major emergency.

“Anybody can donate who’s 16 years of age or older, at least 110 pounds and is feeling good and healthy that day. If they bring in some sort of ID they can give with us and we would really love that,” said Senior Manager of Vitalant Recruitment and Hospital Services Joe Ayer.

However, as people filed into Vitalant Saturday to donate blood at the Winter Classic Blood Drive, one girl hidden in the crowd was not there for the same reason as everyone else.

For 12-year-old Amira Hutcherson, the blood drive was not so much a chance to give, as a chance to thank those who helped save her life.
