The benefits administrator at Thompson Health donates blood for the 100th time at a Red Cross blood drive at Thompson

CANANDAIGUA — As may be expected of a former Eagle Scout, John Paul Mlynar is a goal-oriented guy.

In keeping with his setting goals and achieving them mentality, the Honeoye resident on Friday knocked off two at the same time.

Mlynar, who is benefits administrator at Thompson Health, made his 100th blood donation at a Red Cross blood drive at Thompson Hospital. Mlynar also wanted to reach this milestone before his 50th birthday, which he will celebrate in August.

Consider this a mission accomplished — and it is a big deal.

Only about 0.69 percent of active donors — meaning those who gave in the last 12 months — have reached 100 red cell lifetime donations, according to the Red Cross. This number does not include platelet donations.

Blood donors are very important and special individuals, said Guy Triano, director of donor recruitment, American Red Cross Blood Services, New York-Penn and Penn-Jersey Regions.
